I’ve Found My Princesses!
Posted by: admin in Journey to Miss Florida on April 7th, 2009
Ladies and gentlemen I found four beautiful young ladies to be my sunshine princesses. The ladies are Ty’Jai Holden, Britney Francois, Brittani Holsey, and Tia Mellerson. Recently, I took my baby dolls to the Miss Hurricane and Miss University if Miami Pageant, in order to give them the pageant experience. They were so excited as they had the opportunity to meet Miss Florida, Sierra Minott. Congratulations girls!

Wow! It came and went so fast. Just to inform my bloggers’ I am Vanessa Charles the reigning new Miss Miami Gardens 2009. My platform issue is Youth Empowerment. I chose this as my platform because this generation has a vast amount of oppurtunities to excel and be successful and we need to take advantage of it. To all the wonderful and beautiful pageant contestants for Miss Miami Gardens 2009…kudos! The competition was fierce. Starting with miss Kimberly McDonald gracing everyone with her carasmatic attitude and wonderful smile, “SEE WHAT YOU NOT GON’ DO IS”, miss Janey Tate our 2nd runner is such a vivacious young woman. Janey articulates very well and I always said “if i didn’t win she should”. Little Miss Mina better known as Amina Desiree Lacey. That girl can sing! Jasmine Jackson, Miss Carol City 2009 is a sweet heart. Contestant number five…Ieshma Grant, she made it to the pageant and looked goregous. Miss Hello Kitty…does she ever get upset…lol. The top model Diva Tequilla Graham…Love ya lots. Rosie (with the haitian accent)…lol. Honey your going places. God has a tremendous plan for you. Charita, may look quiet but she is hilarious. Put Ieshma, Charita, and myself together and you have a show! I need you bad like a heart beat, bad like the food i eat…Can anyone guess who? Marie Simon, my haitian sister who looks like Jasmine Sullivan. She has a wonderful personality. Marie and Tequilla are so similar it’s scary. Finally the one and only…CONTESTANT #11, MISS TAMILLA MULLINGS. If it wasn’t for Ms. Tamilla I would not be where I am today. Whenever I called her with a problem, she always had a solution. Miss Miami Gardens 2007 is none other than Chinna Abel. Chinna is a fun person and we are alot alike. Tamilla has her hands full. Her mother Ms. Valerie (Mama Chinna) is so SWEET. Thank you Ms. Randi for all your styling support. Everyone i interacted with throughout this experience were truly blessed and special. Thank you to the judges and Florida Memorial University. God Bless.
Whats going on?

I know everyone is probably wondering what I’ve been doing. I have been doing various local apperances such as speaking engagements at schools, press conferences, island tv, and even the nationally known Jazz in the Gardens. But whats more important than these appearances is a new project I’m going to start called “Dreams to Reality”. Dreams to Reality is a movement in which i encourage my generation to become better individuals. In addition to my project, my biggest task is of course Miss Florida. Thank you to all that have supported me and to all that continue to support me!

Greetings,
I can’t believe it that the pageant is almost here! On Monday, we had our very first official rehearsal. All of the contestants were focused, but most importantly we all have a sense of humor which lighten. Randi gave us some helpful hints to perfect our walks. This is going to be a great show…I mean a great production. The contestants and the Miss Miami Gardens Pageant Staff have been working endlessly. So much time, heart, and effort have been put by so many hardworking people to make sure that the 2009 Miss Miami Gardens Pageant is one that you will never forget! So don’t wait…purchase your tickets today!!!

Greetings,
Thank-you to the Don Shula Resort for being the official sponsor of our PJ party. We had a blast and truly felt like the queens that we are. When we arrived, we were greeted by Stephanie and Tamilla who informed us we would be participating in a scavenger hunt within the hotel. We had to complete the scavenger hunt in order to get to the meeting room where the PJ party would take place. Then, we were divided into three groups. The tricky part was that we could not run while completing the hunt, as we had to exhibit poise and elegance. At each stage of the hunt, we were asked questions such as “Who was the first Miss America? Or Who is the Vice-Mayor of the City of Miami Gardens” If we answered the question incorrectly, we had to do a challenge such as jumping jacks or perform our best winning moment cry. The winners of the scavenger hunt were Team C, which happened to be the team that I was on. Boy, were we excited! Then we snacked on some tasty appetizers. Afterwards, we played Rockband and Taboo. While playing these games, we really bonded, and cracked so much jokes. We watch Enchanted…which is a really great movie. Then, the moment we were waiting for finally happened…we were allowed to pick our contestant numbers. Here’s the lineup…Contestant #1 is…wait, you have to come to the pageant to know that information. But overall, it was so nice to be in a different setting with the other contestants and not focus so much on the pageant.

Last Call!!!

Greetings!!!
So last week, Jan. 29th all of the contestants submitted all required paperwork to be officially in the pageant. It was quite an experience preparing my application. This process really helped me to understand the person that I truly am because a fact sheet and platform statement was few of the items that we were required to submit. I am certain that the other contestants could attest to that. This was the last call for all ladies to be part of this exciting opportunity. On another note, yesterday the Miss Miami Gardens Pageant contestants met with Helen, the official hairstylist for the pageant. She consulted with each contestant on what look would suit them best. Her warm and inviting personality calmed our anxiety about the pageant. It was a fantastic meeting because we all agreed that we would set the example for next year’s pageant contestants. This Saturday, we will be having our PJ Party at the Don Shula Hotel & Resort. Many of the ladies have been asking Tamilla…what exactly we will be doing. We are so excited…but I guess good things come to those who wait.
God Bless,
Rosie Justilien

We are Extraordinary!!!

Welcome!!!
Dedicated, Passionate, and Loving are some words to describe the women who will be competing in this year’s Miss Miami Gardens Pageant. It has been such a great experience meeting the ladies in the pageant, attending the pageant sessions and orientations where we were all able to receive so much insight on the pageant process. We were given a wealth of information on completing the application, raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network and obtaining sponsorships, as well as so much practice on our walk. The information we were given is priceless. Some pageant contestants pay thousands of dollars for the information that we received…so hats off to the city of Miami Gardens for this opportunity. Randi Ross, a two-time pageant titleholder in the Miss America system has facilitated most of these workshops and our pageant director, Tamilla Mullings. Both of them have done an amazing job showing us what we need to do to be our very best. In the words of Randi, “We are Extraordinary.”
God Bless,
Rosie Justilien
